First Grade must say good-bye to our sweet friend, Mallory. Friday will be her last day with us, as she is moving out of state! This is very sad news for us, but happy for her family. Please see the daily folder today for more information about a surprise for her. 0

We are doing a little spring cleaning in first grade. After cleaning out our pencil boxes, several students decided that they need “new” crayons, as they are tired of “old dirty” crayons. New crayons are of course optional, but feel free to send in new crayons for your child if you’d like. Thank you! 0

First Graders are “Spinning into Science”! As part of our Balance and Motion unit, we have discovered that spinning objects must spin around an axis. We decided to make our own spinners using small straws as the axis point and plastic discs to add weight. Students added color with paper circles on top of the discs. A few students also discovered that if the paper is colored with two primary colors, the top looks like a secondary color when it spins! This was one VERY cool science unit! 0

Not everything moves in the same way! First Graders are discovering balance and motion first hand this week in science. We are experimenting with finding our balance points, spinning, rolling, and creating force with pushes and pulls. We put our balancing skills to the test on the balance beam. Students realized that their arms create counterbalance to help them keep steady on the beam. 0
